The Kia Stinger is a product that has been in existence for more than four years. It has changed the way people view the Kia brand. It is a luxury sports sedan that can compete with German competitors that the humble Korean manufacturer could have never imagined. The Stinger is a unique liftback sedan that offers style and utility. It packs a big punch too
2022 Kia Stinger vs 2021 Kia Stinger: here is the Difference
Several styling changes and a change to the base powerplant make the 2022 Kia Stinger a different car. Exterior features include redesigned exhaust tips and wheels, as well as new lights. The interior features more refined materials and an ambient lighting system. It also has a 10.25-inch infotainment screen. By 2022, the GT trim will be discontinued. Auto emergency braking and blind-spot collision avoidance are standard on all three trims. 1
2022 Kia Stinger Sedan Exterior
The Kia Stinger is a beautiful car. But the 2022 model looks even more impressive thanks to some new features such as the aggressive rear end and headlights. The GT1 mid-level adds a power tilt/slide solar roof with power shade, Spire alloy wheels of 19 inches, and Michelin Pilot Sport summer tires.
The 4-door, liftback Stinger measures 190.2 inches long. It isn't quite as big as the 2022 Dodge Charger, but it is more than five inches longer than the Genesis G70. The Stinger measures 73.6 inches in width and is 55.1 inches above the ground. The wheelbase measures 114.4 inches. Although no official curb weight figures have been released, the base model was 3,611 lbs last year while the heavy model was 4,023 lbs. For 2022, we expect even more.
The Stinger's color palette is a great balance of sophisticated and sporty. The Stinger comes in seven exterior colors. Each price is $495 for Ceramic Silver and Snow White Pearl. The HiChroma Red and Micro Blue Pearl are followed by Panthera Metal, Panthera Metal, Ascot Green, and Panthera Metal. The red is also $495, but this package requires you to add the $2300 GT-Line Sun & Sound Pack. Ascot Green and Micro Blue Pearl are available at no additional cost but require the same package. Only three colors will be available for the limited-run Scorpion Special edition: Snow White Pearl, Aurora Black, or Ceramic Silver. We like all of them, so no one color stands out. However, if we had the choice, we would choose the intriguing Ascot Green.
2022 Kia Stinger Performance
The Kia Stinger is fast. It comes standard with rear-wheel drive and an optional all-wheel drive. The Stinger has been designed for those who enjoy spirited driving and have always been targeted at them. We are happy to report that the new 2022 Stinger is even better thanks to a power upgrade in its base model. The Stinger's entry-level model gets rid of its 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in favor of a 2.5-liter unit. This increases power from a respectable 255 horsepower to a substantial 300 horses. The GT-Line is a great sleeper car. Kia claims that it can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds and reach speeds of 130 mph at the top. The trusted twin-turbo, 3.3-liter V6 engine offers slightly more power for 2022 (-368 hp and 376lb-ft torque) and delivers massive punch off of the line due to all that low-down torque. With summer tires, the 3.3-liter car can reach 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds. The Dodge Charger Scat Pack is the best option in this segment. It offers 485 horsepower and 475 lb-ft for a fraction of the price.
Transmission and Engine
The Stinger was not intended to be a city-climber. Kia proved this when it replaced the 255-hp 2.0-liter four-pot engine with a turbocharged 2.5-liter unit that produces a substantial 300 hp as well as 311 lb-ft. An eight-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels, or all four. Although this combination is quick, it lacks the soulfulness and power of the 3.3-liter V6. The GT1 and GT2 trims come standard with twin-turbo, 3.3-liter V6 gasoline engines that produce a powerful 368 horsepower and 376 lb/ft of torque. The engine is reliable and easy to tune. However, in-stock form it still produces a powerful punch and excels at highway and town cruising. Although the eight-speed transmission cannot be compared with a ZF automatic it is fast enough to feel sporty.
Handling and Driving Impressions
Kia follows the lead of many German sport sedans. The RWD chassis balances comfort and dynamic handling. This machine is also sporty in driving. The Stinger can be driven at slower speeds and absorbs bumps well, but its suspension setup is quite stiff. It doesn't interfere with the interior of your cabin, which is a good thing. Stinger's weaknesses are revealed when you drive with more energy. Standard all-season tires on GT-Line will not provide grip and can give way to understeer if you push too hard. We recommend the more predictable AWD drivetrain for beginners and more relaxed drivers. A BMW is the best choice if you want a great driving experience in this class. Thanks to the highly capable Brembo brakes on GT models, the Stinger is just as keen to stop as it is gone. However, the brakes on the base version are equally as effective.
2022 Kia Stinger Gas Mileage
Although the 2022 Kia Stinger's gas mileage is good, it's not great. Especially when the Stinger can be an AWD sedan with nearly 400 horsepower in GT trim These numbers will drop to 21/29/24 for the AWD model. The best RWD 3.3-liter car gets 18/25/20, while the AWD model gets 17/24/20. The BMW 430i Gran Coupe, on the other hand, achieves 25/34/28 mpg.
2022 Kia Stinger Interior
Kia has made great strides in interior quality. Although the Korean manufacturer hasn't yet reached German standards of quality, the elements such as leather upholstery, tight panel gaps, and stylish trimmings have all been there. It is reminiscent of a Mercedes-Benz cabin, particularly in the layout of the door handles and air vents. The dashboard is easy to use and flows well.
It's also nice to have a sport steering wheel with bolstered support. The Stinger's cabin feels spacious and offers enough room for five people to comfortably travel long distances. The cabin is equipped with modern techs such as wireless phone charging and dual-zone climate control to keep it cool.
Interior Space and Seating
The Kia Stinger is a comfortable vehicle that focuses on both the driver and passenger. The midsize liftback can comfortably seat five people and has impressive leg- and headroom. The back is a little tighter, but there are 36.4 inches of legroom. This makes it about the same size as a BMW 5 Series. GT-Line and GT1 have a 12-way power-adjustable driver seat with four-way lumbar support. GT2 has 16-way adjustability and four-way air-cell lumbar support. The GT2 also gets side bolster support with cushion thigh extension and two-way side support. The GT-Line's front-seat passenger GT-Line has six-way manual adjustment. Moving up to the higher trims, power adjustments are available for the passenger. The GT2 trim adds front-seat heating to all models.
Interior Colors and Materials
The 2022 Kia Stinger's interior materials choices are luxurious. GT-Line trims come standard with black leather upholstery. However, you can choose from Red or Beige at an additional cost. The price difference between the trims is different. Nappa leather is available in all GT2 models, but only the Scorpion Special Edition has Nappa leather in Red or Black. The exterior paint you choose will affect the interior colors of all models. Make sure to verify which options are compatible.
2022 Kia Stinger Trunk & Cargo Space
The liftback design is important for cargo space and storage. The body of the 2022 Kia Stinger allows for a lot more cargo space than rivals like the Audi A5 Sportback, which is a good cube-and-a-half. If you need more, the 60/40 split-folding rear seatback will give you plenty of room.
It is possible to store small items. The glovebox and center console can hold your keys and phone. Two large cupholders are located in the front, as well as bottle holders in both the front- and rear doors. A driver's overhead sunglasses holder is also included. There's also underfloor storage to make it even more practical.
2022 Kia Stinger Infotainment & Features

The base model includes rear parking distance warning, wireless charging, an intelligent key, push-button start, and dual-zone automated climate control. It also features an auto-dimming back view mirror, a 12-way adjustable power driver's seat with four-way power lumbar support, heated front seats, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat with power adjustment. The entry-level trim includes driver assistance features such as blind-spot collision avoidance assist, safe escape warning, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance assist, and driver attention warning.
The GT2 includes a surround-view monitor, front- and rear park distance warnings, sport gauges, and a head-up display. It also features a power tilt and telescopic steering column, an auto-dimming reverse view mirror with HomeLink, a 16-way power-adjustable driver seat with four-way air-cell lumbar adjustment, and a 12-way passenger seat. There is ventilation for the front seats and heated rear outboard seats.
